Still the light

Still The Light, By Cameo Smith (Mt. Wolf, PA)

Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
their smiles were contagious,
their laughter filled the air...
they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.

They were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say.
Remembering nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"Where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
"This is Heaven." declared a small boy. "we're spending Christmas at God's house."

When what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
then He opened His arms and He called them by name.

In that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew to the arms of their King
As they lingered in the warmth of His blessed embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.

And as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad."
When He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe

He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
"Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"
"may this country be delivered from the hands of fools"
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"

Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"Come now my children, let me show you around."
excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.

and I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
"in the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

The Bridge

A man on his Harley was riding along a California  beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, God said, 'because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.'

The biker pulled over and said, 'Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want.'

God replied, 'Your request is materialistic; think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required reaching the bottom of the Pacific and the concrete and steel it would take! I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help man kind.'

The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally, he said, 'God, I wish that I, and all men, could understand women; I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, why she snaps and complains when I try to help, and how I can make a woman truly happy.

God replied: 'You want two lanes or four on that bridge...?"

A Little Boy's Explanation of God

Out of the Mouths of the Babes...

I don't think an Adult Could Explain This More Beautifully!

This is Fabulous!

IT WAS WRITTEN BY AN 8-YEAR-OLD NAMED DANNY DUTTON, WHO LIVES IN CHULA VISTA , CA . HE WROTE IT FOR HIS THIRD GRADE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT, TO 'EXPLAIN GOD.' I WONDER IF ANY OF US COULD HAVE DONE AS WELL?

(and he had such an assignment, in California , and someone published it, I guess miracles do happen!)

EXPLANATION OF GOD:

One of God's main jobs is making people.

He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn't have to take up his valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.'

'God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way to turn it off.'

'God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by going over your mom and dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have.'

'Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in Chula Vista . At least there aren't any who come to our church.'

'Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of him preaching to them and they crucified him. But he was good and kind, like his father, and he told his father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said O.K.'

'His dad (God) appreciated everything that he had done and all his hard work on earth so he told him he didn't have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. So he did. And now he helps his dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones he can take care of himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important.'

'You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.'

'You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God! Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong. And besides the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway.'

'If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're scared, in the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids.'

'But...you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases. And...that's why I believe in God.'

Disappointment With Shortarmguy Over Recent Post: slam dunk Jesus??

I just received this email regarding this post:

Todd

I cant believe the Macho man picture. As a Christian man I'm really disappointed that you find humor in disgracing our Savior. I have enjoyed your site for a long time, but after viewing such a abomination I wont be back to your site. I'm sure you don't care anyway I'm just one person. My prayers are with you

R.L.J Kyoshi.

Mr. Kyoshi,

First off, I'd like to say Thanks for being a long time visitor to my site.

I really appreciate your feedback and am sorry to hear about your disappointment regarding this post.  Honestly, I debated if it was worth posting because I feared some people might find it offensive.

Ultimately, I decided to use the picture because I found it funny.  I didn't really think it was an abomination because I took it more as making fun of the guy who predicted the Rapture.  I found it crazy that so many people were paying attention to it.

I also was a fan of Randy 'Macho Man' Savage and wanted to pay homage to him due to his unfortunate death last week.  I liked the idea of him "Saving the World" from the Rapture that was supposed to take place on Saturday.  I really didn't take it literally that he was attacking Jesus, but more that he was attacking the idiocy of the prediction and the society that gave it so much undeserved attention.

I hope you will reconsider your position about not visiting my site again.  I used poor judgment in this case and will do my best to avoid similar parodies in the future.

Your friend,

Todd Swank aka Shortarmguy

A Prayer (author unknown)

Now I lay me down to sleep...one less terrorist the world to keep...
with all my heart I give my thanks...to those in uniform regardless of ranks...
you serve our country and serve it well...with humble hearts your stories tell...
so as I rest my weary eyes...while freedom rings our flag still flies...
you give your all, do what you must...with God we live and God we trust....
Amen. :-)

Ken Finds an Unusual Church Sign

Good morning Mr. Todd.

I was out with my 15 year old son driving on Saturday; we pulled into the parking lot at the Catholic Church in Medford [Medford is a small town 6 miles north of Owatonna] to switch drivers. This is what was on the sign in front of the church. I was to busy later in the day to check out the folks showing up for "ass time".

Thought you mite get a kick out of this.

Enjoy the snow,  Ken

CBS News Video: UFO over Jerusalem's Dome of the Rock?

OK.  First we had animals falling dead out of the sky all over the world, then there were massive riots erupting all over the Middle East, now there's UFO's landing on the Dome of the Rock in Israel.

What are we building up for?  2012?

Or is this all just some big publicity stunt for the next Indiana Jones movie?

Ferns vs Bamboo

Don't EVER give up.....

One day I decided to quit...

I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality... I wanted to quit my life.

I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.

"God",I asked, "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"

His answer surprised me...

Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"

"Yes", I replied.

"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them.  I gave them light.  I gave them water.  The fern quickly grew from the earth.  Its brilliant green covered the floor.  Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.  In the second year the fern grew more vibrant and plentiful.  And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo," He said.

"In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit.  In year four, again there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit," He said.

"Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant...But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.

It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive.  I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle."

He asked me. "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots?"

"I would not quit on the bamboo. I will NEVER quit on you. Don't compare yourself to others," He said.

"The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful. Your time will come," God said to me. "You will rise high."

"How high should I rise?" I asked.

"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.

"As high as it can?" I questioned.

"Yes," He said. "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."

I left the forest and brought back this story.

I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you.

Never, never, never give up.

This message is now in your hands.

What will YOU do with it??

Good things happen when you least expect them to!

Buttprints in the Sand

One night I had a wondrous dream,
One set of footprints there was seen,
The footprints of my precious Lord,
But mine were not along the shore.

But then some strange prints appeared,
And I asked the Lord, "What have we here?"
Those prints are large and round and neat,
"But Lord, they are too big for feet."

"My child," He said in somber tones,
"For miles I carried you along.
I challenged you to walk in faith,
But you refused and made me wait."

"You disobeyed, you would not grow,
The walk of faith, you would not know,
So I got tired, I got fed up,
And there I dropped you on your butt."

"Because in life, there comes a time,
When one must fight, and one must climb,
When one must rise and take a stand,
Or leave their butt prints in the sand."

THE SILENT SERMON

A member of a certain church, who previously had been attending services regularly, stopped going. After a few weeks, the pastor decided to visit him.

It was a chilly evening. The pastor found the man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for his pastor's visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a comfortable chair near the fireplace and waited.

The pastor made himself at home but said nothing. In the grave silence, he contemplated the dance of the flames around the burning logs. After some minutes, the pastor took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone then he sat back in his chair, still silent.

The host watched all this in quiet contemplation. As the one lone ember's flame flickered and diminished, there was a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it was cold and dead.

Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. The pastor glanced at his watch and realized it was time to leave. He slowly stood up, picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately it began to glow, once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals around it.

As the pastor reached the door to leave, his host said with a tear running down his cheek, 'Thank you so much for your visit and especially for the firey sermon. I will be back in church next Sunday'.

We live in a world today, which tries to say too much with too little. Consequently, few listen. Sometimes the best sermons are the ones left unspoken.
