Icebergs in Lake Winnipeg sometimes have stripes, formed by layers of snow that react to different conditions.
Blue stripes are often created when a crevice in the ice sheet fills up with melt water and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form.
When an iceberg falls into the lake, a layer of water can freeze to the underside. If this is rich in algae, it can form a green stripe.
Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the lake.
Frozen Wave Pixs - Nature is amazing!
The water froze the instant the wave broke through the ice. That's what it is like in Lake Winnipeg where it is the coldest weather in decades. Water freezes the instant it comes in contact with the air. The temperature of the water is already some degrees below freezing. Just look at how the wave froze in mid-air!!!
Not Lake Winnipeg:

Not lake Michigan either, you should check the material you steal before you post it.
ReplyDeleteTell it to the Judge.
ReplyDeleteThose photos are from the Antarctic. STOP spreading false information.
ReplyDeleteThis is not Lake Winnipeg - Just because he has short arms - doesn't mean he can tell the truth.
ReplyDeletea couple of the striped ones were taken near the drill rigs off the coast of Newfoundland.
DeleteYou guys should be nice to Shortarmguy. I've been to Lake Winnipeg before and have seen icebergs just like this. I stood on one of them as a matter of fact...
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, this is misinformation. Not Lake Winnipeg. Where are the glaciers feeding into the lake? There simply are none. Also, waves cannot freeze in place. Most household freezers are at -20C and it sure takes a while to make ice cubes. Ice in winter, sure. Large chunks of glacier floating around....no. These pictures are from Antarctica.
ReplyDeleteThis is all such bullshit. It's completely fabricated, with the stripes enhanced by computer. You should be ashamed of yourself.
ReplyDeletethe stripes are for real. you can see many others taken from drill rigs off the east coast of canada
DeleteAre you freeks for real ?? Its a joke, so just enjoy it and get out and have some fun before time runs out...
