Shortarmguy's Diary Update for February 13, 2011

This weekend was Miss Sheri and I's seventeeth wedding anniversary.  I honestly can't believe she's put up with me this long.

To celebrate, we went to Benihana in Golden Valley.  Neither of us had ever eaten Teppenyaki Style Japanese cooking before, so we were somewhat apprehensive about whether we'd like it or not.  I'm pleased to say that it was literally one of the best meals I've ever had in my life!

Since we were in a Japanese restaurant, I wanted to drink something authentic so I ordered a large flask of Sake.  They described it to me as tasting like Hot White Wine.  I absolutely hated it.  I think they should call it Sucky instead!

They served us multiple courses including shrimp, steak, salad, and vegetables like zuchini and onions which were among Miss Sheri's favorites.  I'm much more of a meat man myself and the shrimp was to die for!
This guy sures knows his meat!

On Saturday, we went to Captain Jack's to compete in their annual Ice Fishing Tournament.  Since we'd never really been ice fishing before, we didn't have very high expectations for our chances.

At first we thought you had to put your head through the hole and "Bob for the Fish" but then suddenly realized no-one else was doing it this way.  We then went to get some poles and minnows for bait.

We were excited to finally find a use for the crates that Miss Sheri stole off a milk truck back in her wild teen years.

Avery was so thrilled to be ice fishing.  Either that or he was really thrilled that I was interupting his ice fishing by asking him to pose for this picture.  I really can't remember which it was.

What an Ice Hole!

So we didn't do very good in the tournament.  We fished for about an hour and didn't even get a nibble.  We felt better about things when we heard that only 8 fish were caught by the hundred or so people in the tournament, but still felt ripped off a little.  Dang fish have always hated us!
After the fishing, they had a big raffle with a whole bunch of cool prizes.  We did about as well winning prizes as we did catching fish through a hole in the ice.  At least we were able to bring Sunny with us into the tent on the ice to be a big loser with us!
