Underwater Adventures!
Shortarmguy Diary for September 12, 2010
Back to Life, Back to Reality! Summer vacation is over and the boys had to go back to school this week! I didn't hear any stories about being locked up in a locker or getting their heads dunked in toilets, so their first week as Middle Schoolers went much better than mine did!
On Saturday, we went for a visit to a place we haven't been to in awhile, the Mall of America. It's such a happy place.
Our first stop was to the Apple Store so the boys could drool all over the iPads. I sure hope somebody cleaned them up after we left.
The main reason for our visit was to go see Underwater Advantures. We hadn't been there in a few years and the boys thought it would be fun to go check it out. It turns out a lot of it is under construction due to the fact that they're planning on revamping the whole aquarium over the next 6 months. The moving walkway is no longer running and the tanks are pretty much empty except for the sealife. Yet, we were really excited about seeing the direction they're going with the place. They've re-routed the exit and it now goes through the world's largest jellyfish exhibit which is so tranquil and awesome to see. You might want to wait a few more months to visit until they're closer to the re-launch, but the Shortarmguy Family is lovin' it!
One of the neat changes they've made is giving everyone much closer access to the animals. Ever since I was a little kid, I've had this overwhelming urge to pet snapping turtles. You'd think I would have learned my lesson after sacrificing a couple of fingers to the creatures, but it's just so dang tempting!
Little Luker. Always following in my footsteps!
The alligator gars seem to have grown quite a bit since our last visit. I don't know where these big fish are native to, but they are very scary looking! They're as big as an adult human and have the mouth of an alligator. I sure wish I could pet one.
On Saturday night, we had a pleasant surprise when our friends, Karl and Tina, invited us over for dinner. They're such nice people!
I was all excited when Karl challenged me to a corn on the cob eating contest and jumped right in there devouring those succulent yellow niblets. I was three cobs in when I realized he was kidding. It was worth being humiliated, though, because that was some dang good corn!
The Zitzewitzes are neat people, but they definitely have some quirks. Like the fact that they have all sorts of wild frogs roaming freely through their house. But when in Rome, Act like they do....so we played with the frogs with them pretty much all night.
I must admit, though, the little creatures did start to grow on me after awhile. They're really cute and cuddly!
